And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. - Ezekiel 16 provides a history of the whore Israel and records her whoredoms she committed with idols of other gods (Eze 16:17, 36).
- In Ezekiel 23, Israel and Judah are signified by two sisters, Oholah and Oholibah) which committed great whoredoms against God.
- In the book of Hosea, Israel is recognized as being an adulterous whore (Hos 3:3, 4:10-15-18, 5:3-4, 6:10, 9:1) in that she rebelled from God’s holy path. Hosea was told to marry a whore (Gomer), which symbolized the nation of Israel (Hos 1:2, Hos 2:2-5, Hos 3:3, Hos 4:10-15, Hos 4:18).

Hand – represents the control of will of a person
- To be given into the hand of another meant that the other person now had control. Many times, when a nation lost to another in battle, it was referred to as being delivered into the hand of the victor (see Jud 11:32, 13:1, 15:12‑13, 16:23‑24, 1 Chr 14:10, 1 Ki 15:18, 2 Sam 8:1, Ps 37:33, 71:4, 106:41). Therefore, it is clear that the hand in the Bible can be viewed as referring to the will of an individual. If one nation lost to another, they were now under the control or will of the victor.

- The Word of God is referred to as a sword (Heb 4:12, Eph 6:17, Rev 19:15, Rev 19:21, Is 11:4, Is 49:2).
- The Word of God by which we are judged (Rev 19:15-21).
- On the one hand the Word of God (i.e. the sword) brings life and peace to those who are saved. But, on the other hand, it is what will judge the unsaved.
- Two-fold nature of the Word in salvation and judgment in the following passages: 2 Cor 2:15-17, Ps 149:5-9, Pr 5:4. For example, we see in 2 Cor 2:15-17 that when we bring the Word of God, we are a savor of life to those who believe, yet to those who are unsaved we are the aroma of death as we remind them of Judgment Day.
