The Number of the Beast
What is the significance of the number of the Beast, 666? This number has caused extensive confusion and erroneous beliefs. Much of the error concerning this number comes from the belief that Rev 13:18 teaches that one must ‘count’ or add up the individual number values of the letters of the Beast’s name (also known as Gematria). Gematria is the method that is used by taken the individual alphabet letter number values and then adding them together to come to a conclusion of the overall summed number that belongs to each name. The number 666 would be the sum of man’s work of promoting the kingdom of Satan, which is also known as the Satanic trinity (dragon, beast, false prophet).
