Siege and Destruction of Jerusalem

Jerusalem siege and destruction – During the Babylonian captivity of Judah, a siege of Jerusalem occurred for 18 months beginning in 588 B.C. and ending in 586 B.C.  During the siege, the resultant famine became so bad that people resorted to cannibalism to survive.  However, the famine and resultant cannibalism have important spiritual meaning for the Christian church today since the Babylonian Captivity was a type of the final Great Tribulation (which occurs just prior to the return of Jesus Christ).  Famine is a symbol for not hearing the Word of God (Bible) which ultimately results of the ‘cannibalism’ of hating one another due to not loving one’s neighbor.  The destruction of Jerusalem is also described in the Olivet Discourse of Matthew 24, Mark 13 and Luke 21, pointing to the ruin of the Christian church during the Great Tribulation.  Please click on the videos below for more information or study further below on this page.

Famine

• A nation of fierce countenance, which shall not regard the person of the old, nor shew favour to the young: And he shall eat the fruit of thy cattle, and the fruit of thy land, until thou be destroyed: which also shall not leave thee either corn, wine, or oil, or the increase of thy kine, or flocks of thy sheep, until he have destroyed thee. And he shall besiege thee in all thy gates, until thy high and fenced walls come down, wherein thou trustedst, throughout all thy land: and he shall besiege thee in all thy gates throughout all thy land, which the LORD thy God hath given thee. • And it came to pass in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came, he, and all his host, against Jerusalem, and pitched against it; and they built forts against it round about. Symbolic Meaning of Famine – Scarcity of the Word of God

And as the king of Israel was passing by upon the wall, there cried a woman unto him, saying, Help, my lord, O king. And he said, If the LORD do not help thee, whence shall I help thee? out of the barnfloor, or out of the winepress? And the king said unto her, What aileth thee? And she answered, This woman said unto me, Give thy son, that we may eat him to day, and we will eat my son to morrow. So we boiled my son, and did eat him: and I said unto her on the next day, Give thy son, that we may eat him: and she hath hid her son. (2Ki 6:24-29)

Spiritual Cannabalism

And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God: which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his god; and he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his god. And the king spake unto Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel, and of the king’s seed, and of the princes;

2^nd Siege (Jehoiachin) – 599 B.C. – Ezekiel Taken

At that time the servants of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up against Jerusalem, and the city was besieged. And Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came against the city, and his servants did besiege it. And Jehoiachin the king of Judah went out to the king of Babylon, he, and his mother, and his servants, and his princes, and his officers: and the king of Babylon took him in the eighth year of his reign. And he carried out thence all the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king’s house, and cut in pieces all the vessels of gold which Solomon king of Israel had made in the temple of the LORD, as the LORD had said. Not One Stone upon Another that Shall not be Thrown Down

• And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple. And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.  (Mat 24:1-2)
• And as he went out of the temple, one of his disciples saith unto him, Master, see what manner of stones and what buildings are here! And Jesus answering said unto him, Seest thou these great buildings? there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.  (Mar 13:1-2)
• And as some spake of the temple, how it was adorned with goodly stones and gifts, he said, As for these things which ye behold, the days will come, in the which there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.  (Luk 21:5-6)

Answer to Question 1 – When will the stones be thrown down?

Great Tribulation:
