Babylon – Summary

The great harlot Babylon typifies confused, false Christianity found in churches and faith-based parachurch organizations.  As a queen, Babylon exerts influence and control over both leaders (politics) and the people of the world. This influence and control is achieved by making people spiritually drunken through the worship of false gods and idols, which includes but is not limited to greed, riches, worldly and new age wisdom, mighty works (such as military, political, sports, business conquests, etc.), false teaching and false gospels, materialism and all sorts of worldly pleasures.   Outwardly, she appears to be beautifully adorned with well-meaning religious people (some of who are genuine Christians), but inwardly, she is the habitation of demons, false ministers and unsaved persons. The majority of people in Babylon are unsaved (many are called, but few chosen).  Babylon has great ministers who spread Babylon’s false religion locally as well as worldwide through churches and faith-based, parachurch organizations.  Great Babylon has a wide range of spiritual ‘merchandise’ that deceive seekers of God that they have become spiritually rich by joining a church, being involved with faith-based, parachurch organizations and adhering to a set of doctrines or norms within Babylon.  But in reality, they are spiritually desolate.  The sorcery of deception is achieved particularly through music, church growth involving allowance for worshiping earthly god and idols of all sorts, false teaching and evangelizing a false gospel.  This abominable, confused world religious system glorifies itself and spiritually and / or physically persecutes genuine Christians, who individually or in groups are those who believe that Jesus is the Christ and trust in God’s grace (loving-kindness), judgment and righteousness.  Christians, whether individually or in groups who are in spiritual Babylon are exhorted to come out of Babylon and not be partakers of her sins, but some may linger and not come out until the Last Day when Babylon will be judged for her egregious sins. –  Based on Revelation 17-19
