The prophet, Ezekiel warns us of briers, thorns and scorpions in the church today. These are symbolic references to various types of people in today’s church. Briers and thorns symbolize those who despise (neglect) God’s word and love the things of this world (idolatrous). Scorpions are those many, many leaders in the church today who promote idolatry and false doctrines in the church. Ezekiel is one of the four ‘major prophets’ in the Old Testament. He prophesied during the time of Jeremiah and Daniel (2 other ‘major prophets’). Ezekiel received many visions while in captivity by the Babylonians. The Babylonian Captivity symbolizes the upcoming Great Tribulation. Most prophecy in the Bible is symbolic. The book of Ezekiel also contains much symbolism.
