In Ezekiel 4, God commands Ezekiel to lay down on his side for 430 days. This time is divided into 390 days on his left side for Israel and 40 days on his right side for Judah. These times are symbolic for 390 and 40 years. But, the 390 and 40 years have important spiritual meanings in prophecy. Israel and Judah are symbolic of the church today. Ezekiel was a prophet sent from God to Israel. The house of Israel is a type of the church today. Ezekiel prophesied to Israel during the Babylonian Captivity. Ezekiel received many visions while in captivity by the Babylonians. The Babylonian Captivity symbolizes the the Great Tribulation, which the church is on the verge of entering. The Great Tribulation is that ‘little season’ just before the Last Day when Jesus Christ returns. The action of laying down is symbolic of the spiritual deadness of the church of the Old Testament.
