Impossible to Repent after Falling Away? What Hebrews 6:4-6 really teaches

There is much confusion about Hebrews 6:4-6. Heb 6:4-6 teaches repentance is impossible for a person that previously claimed to be a Christian. Some believe that Christians can backslide (commit apostasy) and come back to Christ. Others believe that this passage teaches that a Christian can lose their salvation. To understand what Hebrews 6:4-6 really teaches, we need to understand how people become saved.

God’s people are saved only by grace. They were chosen before the world began. Once God gives them saving faith,, they will never fall away from the faith. There are many Bible passages that clearly teach that salvation cannot be lost. Heb 6:4-6 teaches that there are many people who claim to be a Christian, but they never were in the first place. They were trusting in their free will faith, which can never save. These people were enlightened because they heard the call of God, but were not one of God’s chosen people. (Many are called, but few are chosen). People who fall away were not true Christians. They will never receive true repentance and be saved.
